Why do many people not see reasons to thank God  is the question of many christians today.The year is almost ended and there is a lot of evaluation going on. People are trying to assess their lives now in comparison to the beginning of the year.

While some are very grateful, even for the seemingly insignificant things, some do not believe there is any reason to give God thanks.

How God used men and women in the Bible

Here are the points why so many people not see reasons to thank God

1. They Believe There Is No God, Even If There Is; He Has Not Contributed To Anything In Their Achievements.
You hear these group of people saying that all that they are and have achieved in life, they got for and by themselves. They are solely, single handedly self-made, so they owe no body or no God nothing and no thanks.
They do not realize that God is God and He remains faithful no matter what we think. Romans 3:3

2. They Think God Has Done Nothing For Them.
These ones believe in God but see no reason to give Him thanks. He has answered none of their prayers, so He has done nothing worthy of thanks.

They forget that life itself is a miracle, waking up every day is a miracle and a testimony to the truth that the reason they live is God’s mercies and because He has not abandoned them. Lamentations 3:22 Psalm 3:5

3. They Are Too Used To God’s Mercy.
There is a saying that “Familiarity breeds contempt”. This should not hold for believers, especially with their God and Father. Unfortunately, it is largely one reason for thanklessness among God’s people, they have become too used to God’s goodness and mercy that they take them for granted.

They have allowed what they considered miracles before to become common in their eyes; being alive, good health, shelter, water to drink and bathe with, ability to breathe in and out, food to eat… and all such LITTLE miracles no longer look special to them. So they are laid back, enjoying these benefits, caring less about gratitude. They do not realize that we owe God thanks both morning and night. Psalm 92:1,2

One reason some people do not give thanks is because they are too used to God’s mercies.

4. They Are Just Ungrateful.
These ones believe God is obligated to them. He has only done what He is supposed to do and to some He has not done enough. Like what I think of the 9 lepers in Luke 17, maybe they felt no need to go back to thank Jesus. Maybe they thought after all, that is what He was sent to do, He only did His job, so why go all the way back just to say thank you?

They do not realize that God is obligated to no one but His word. Tweet This They have forgotten that everything we enjoy today, every single little thing is a result of God’s goodness and mercy, even waking up every morning is a result of God’s mercy.
There is so much to be thankful for; chief for believers is the fact that they have been forgiven, saved from death and hell.

5. They Hold A Grudge Against God.
Many people refuse to give thanks to God for anything because they are mad at God. Maybe for what they think He did, or allowed to happen, or for what He did not do. “How could He let my father, mother, child, husband, wife be caught in that accident or die? Where was He when this or that happened?” they ask, or “Why didn’t He do this or that for me, how could He deny me this or that?”

They do not remember that God is not the author of evil, and if He permits anything to happen, He knows best. They forget that He has their best interest at heart and whatever it was that happened could have been worse, or whatever didn’t happen God’s love for them is still His motivation. Jeremiah 31:3, 29:11

The enemy is a trickster and would naturally show us our unfulfilled desires and unanswered prayers in order to stop us from giving thanks. He has not forgotten what thanks and praise did for Paul and Silas, tiny Judah with King Jehoshaphat against their enemy nations or Jonah in the fish belly… just to mention a few.
If we would take the time to think a little and change our perspective, remove our eyes from what we do not have to what we have, think on the mercies and goodness of God, we will discover countless reasons to be thankful to God.

The moment we begin to look at what we do have, instead of what we do have, we will be thankful.

Here Isaiah’s Lamentations when he focused on his challenges…
I said to myself, “I no longer have any hope that the Lord will help me.” Remember, I am very sad, and I have no home. Remember the bitter poison that you gave me. I remember well all my troubles, and I am very sad. Lamentations 3: 18-20 (NLT)

But hear him when he allowed a shift in his thinking…

But then I think about this, and I have hope: We are still alive because the Lord’s faithful love never ends. Every morning he shows it in new ways! You are so very true and loyal! I say to myself, “The Lord is my God, and I trust him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for him. He is good to those who look for him.
Lamentations 3: 21-25 (NLT)

I trust that we will all think on God’s goodness to us and take our eyes off of satan’s suggestions. I trust that we all will know that we ought to be grateful to God no matter what, and we ought to tell Him so.
