Our text contains words of encouragement that God, through the mouth of prophet Isaiah brought to his children following a captivity that lasted for 70 years.
Though it was a deserved punishment, God could not help intervening to end the suffering of his people. He show them love, brought succour and comfort to them.
Isaiah 54:4-10
4 Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.
5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.
6 For the Lord hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.
7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee.
8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the Lord thy Redeemer.
9 For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee.
10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee.
The above passage shows that’s God’s eyes are forever watching over his own even when they stray, calling them to repentance.
It is indeed unfailing and unshakeable. it is a love predicted on his firm commitment regardless of how you feel.
Here His promise to the Jews – and by extension – the church of today:” You will not be ashamed, you will not be disgraced; you
will forget the shame of your youth and the reproach of your widowhood”- what a promise!
it does not matter the desertion, rejection, and grief that we have suffered; or how long it has been, God will gather us together with great mercies and this shall be with everlasting kindness.
It is a covenant of Peace that will surely not be moved; firmer than the mountains and stronger than the hills.
To further reassure the people, he made the promises with an oath.

Dear Lord, I believe your word; let it be unto me as you have spoken that my days of reproach may be forgotten.
