We live in a world overflowing with information. If you don’t know something you can Google it, and you’ll have the information you need within seconds. But sometimes we can depend on the information we get and lean on it.
At other times we’ve gone through circumstances, learned a few things and when a similar situation arises, we lean on our experiences.
The world tells us God helps those who help themselves. Which is not found in scripture anywhere.
Or it says, pull yourselves up by your own bootstraps.
The world tells us, You’ve got this!
And then life happens, and we soon discover we are helpless. And often those feelings of helplessness lead us to feeling hopeless.
But the good news is that we have a loving Father who did not leave us alone, no matter what we’re going through. He makes us sufficient for whatever we face.
Zechariah 4:1-14
1 And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep.
2 And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:
3 And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.
4 So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord?
5 Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.
6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.
7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.
8 Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
9 The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto you.
10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the Lord, which run to and fro through the whole earth.
11 Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof?
12 And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves?
13 And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.
14 Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.
The above passage is one of great encouragement – especially for those who have been called into fellowship with the lord And who have been assigned any task in his vineyard.
Zerubbabel was one of those to whom had been committed the task of rebuilding the temple. The other was Joshua. This task would be completed by the same zerubbabel who had started it.
But even though all the materials required to build the temple would be provided; the Spirit of God would be the driving Force in the execution of it.
In other words, whilst God’s plan for the work would include provision of manpower, building materials and expertise, over them
all, His spirit would unify all that was being done to bring the work to a “glorious completion”.
The message here is very simple. Whenever the Lord calls you to His service it does not matter how tough and daunting it may
appear, the Lord Jimself is there to ensure that he provides you with what it takes not only to perform the task, but to do it creditably well.
He will not abandon you to Fate.
The world is becoming together and more hazardous to live in. In this world of insecurity and uncertainty; it is natural for many to think that survival is of the fittest.
But the truth is that in order to float above these difficulties and in fact, evil times you must not just rely on your toughness and ruggedness, but on the grace of God.
If you have Him on your side, you will smile at the stormy times.
Prayer
Dear Lord, let me always remember that in the challenges of daily living, I can never become an “overcomer” if I rely on the arm of flesh. May your grace avail for me in Jesus’ name Amen.
